Goals and Objectives

The institution works on the following goals and objectives for achieving the vision, mission, and values:

1. To introduce the prospective teachers to the fundamentals of education through various courses, prescribed in B.Ed. curriculum.
2. To acquaint the student teachers with information communication technology and its application in teaching and learning.
3. To promote inclusive education to prepare students for life in diverse society.
4. To develop the infrastructure befitting to an institution of teacher education.
5. To equip the student teachers to acquire competencies and skills required for effective teaching and become reflective practitioners.
6. To draw out the innate talents of student teachers through various academic and other activities.
7. To impart value-based education for the prospective teachers.
8. To produce efficient teachers who can contribute towards national development. 
9. To develop teaching-learning and ICT materials.
10. To make proper use of existing resources in the light of modern concept of teacher education.

About College

       The Sponsored Teachers’ Training College, Purulia started its journey from the academic session 1964-65 with an intake of 40 (forty) women trainee under the University of Burdwan. Under the auspices of the ‘Women Development Scheme’ during the Third Five Year Plan, the Government of West Bengal established the College vide G.O. No. 2318-Edn(G) dated 6/10.7.1964, as a Govt. Sponsored College with the name “Sponsored Teachers’ Training College for Women”. It is situated in Purulia Municipality under Purulia district, lying Chota Nagpur Plateau Region, in the Western Part of West Bengal with a beautiful campus covering an area of 5.18 acres of land. The college is well connected to the Purulia Bus Stand (2.5 km) and Purulia Railway Station (2.7 km) by Bus, Auto and E-Rickshaw.

   The Institution has been affiliated by the UGC u/s 2(f) from its inception and considered eligible to receive central assistance through UGC u/s 12(B). The Government of West Bengal has permitted the College for ‘Co-education’ teaching from the academic session 1969-70 with an increased intake of 200. The College has been renamed as “Sponsored Teachers’ Training College”. The College has earned the Recognition from the NCTE w.e.f. the academic session 2003-04 for conducting B Ed Course with an intake of 100 students vide No. ERC/7-37(ER-37.6.1)/2003/1553(1) Dated August 11, 2003. Validation of the B Ed Degree u/s 18B of the NCTE Act, 1993, has also been made for the students of this college who successfully completed the course from 1995-96 to 2002-03 vide No.ERC/WB-S/V-51/06/4794 (1) dated 08.12.2006. The college is presently affiliated under Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University (Erstwhile The West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration) from the Academic Session 2018-20.

      Since the inception, the college has earned for itself the reputation of being a premier institution for Teacher Education in the State of West Bengal. The college already celebrated Golden Jubilee Occasion in 2014-15. The admission procedure is governed by rules, prescribed by the Govt. of W.B., affiliating university and NCTE from time to time. The College offers training in teaching methods almost all the subjects taught in Secondary School. The College has a modern library containing various books for inspiring all round development activity in the students paving their path for self-realization and above all, in the greater performance of students in the University examination till now.

      The College has a fully equipped Physical Science, Life Science, Geography, Psychology, ICT and Curriculum Laboratory where students are given practical training with modern apparatus under the guidance of expert teachers. In addition to this, the college has a 100 capacity Seminar Hall, a multipurpose Assembly Hall, Canteen, Cycle Stand, Play ground with Games & Sports facility and two hostels, both for boys & girls. The community outreach programmes are organized by the college throughout the year. Thus, the college is gearing up for meeting new challenges of higher education.
